Whale themed surfboards

JAXON Surfboards is soon to be releasing a range of whale themed surfboards around July 2012... just in time for summer! A sneak peak of the latest boards can be seen below:

Awaiting sand and spray job... this lil beauty is The Orca - measures 5'10" x 22" x 2.5" with a twin fin set up. Steady continuous rocker with a lot of volume pushed forward so you can ride this chestnut right up on the nose.

The 'Beluga' 7'4 x 23" x 2 3/4" Single fin. Plenty of volume around the chest allows for plenty of paddling speed and the reduced length optimises maneuverability. Great board for small sluggish summer waves.

Deep single concave with sharp square tail
Glassed with 6/4oz and hot coat applied

Code red - Billabong Pro 2011

It tells the story of the 2011 Billabong Pro Tahiti, a World Tour event that was placed on hold due to a dangerously huge swell bearing down on epic break Teahupo'o.

Luckily, surfers Laurie Towner and Dylan Longbottom were there to help tell the tale.

Coffin creation

From working with Artist Angela Cockayne on the Dominion project to build the eco surfboard / artwork 'ishmael's raft' I was intrigued by the sensation of riding a surfboard with parallel rails. The 7'2 and 4' coffin shaped boards came a success, however at the risk of damaging were not possible to test.

Using a old blank I had lying around I shaped a smaller version of the coffin I produced for Angela's Moby Dick project.

This experimental board is 5'2 with a shallow channel around the eco comp single fin.

Whether it is more of a body board than surfboard is questionable, will have to get someone considerably smaller than me to test it out and will report back at a later date.
